Receive $60 of the upcoming 2013 produce for only $50 now! A C.S.B. share is like a gift card. It lets you: 1. You decide how many C.S.B. farm shares you would like for the upcoming harvest season. Each share costs $50 but is redeemable for $60 worth of fruits and/or veggies at our farm location only. 2. When redeeming, you can combine up to a max. of 2 different fruits or veggies per share to “fill your bushel”. The full value of each share must be redeemed at one time ($60). 3. You can keep in touch with us online, and you’ll also receive a C.S.B. e-letter with up to date crop information so you can plan when you’d like to get the produce you want. 4. Choose whether to pick your own (much more produce per dollar, but not available for all of the things we grow) and/or order Fresh Picked produce. Fresh Picked items must be ordered in advance to ensure availability. However, due to weather variability, we can only take orders a few days ahead. You pay $200 now and receive a share the First Wednesday of every month starting in July and ending in October. That’s 4 x $60 value ($240 total). Shares are picked up in town at Belluz Farms Little Red Barn on Wednesdays from noon-6pm. (Home Hardware on Memorial Ave.) 2. We choose what goes in the share but will always try to give you a variety of available produce at that time so you don’t get too much of one thing. You just have to pick it up (don't worry we'll remind you via email!) Our Community Supported Bushel (CSB) concept works within the Community Supported Agriculture model. Made by Forbes Wild Foods. Balsam Jelly is made from the juice from the needles of balsam fir trees, which grow across the north of Canada, from northern Alberta to northern Quebec and Newfoundland. It has a very distinctive flavour and is particularly good in sauces for freshwater fish such as whitefish and lake trout and in gravies for meats such as lamb or game. In a dressing, it adds a fresh original taste to a tomato and cucumbers salad. It pairs well with many cheeses, and it can also be brushed on the top of a homemade apple pie before briefly warming. When used in cooking, it should not be cooked at a high temperature or cooked for a long time as the flavour will be lost. When camping you can flavour whole fish by first wrapping one with Balsam branches, then in foil or a natural substitute, and cooking it on a barbecue or in the coals of a campfire.

Never tried Barley Flour?! You must give it a try! It is delicious. Barley Flour is much lower in gluten than wheat flour, though it is not gluten free. It has a bit of a nutty taste. In a recipe that calls for wheat flour, try using 1/3 Barley Flour and 2/3 Wheat Flour. Just be careful because Barley Flour loves to absorb water! We use a hull-less variety of barley called Millhouse to make this wonderful flour. We are among the few mills in Canada that grow and mill Barley Flour! Here is a delicious recipe for Banana Barley Bread: ½ cup butter ¾ cup sugar 3 ripe, medium bananas, mashed 2 eggs ¼ cup buttermilk (I just used regular milk) 4 tsp baking powder 2 cups barley flour ¼ tsp nutmeg ½ cup chopped nuts (or chocolate chips!) In a medium bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Stir in mashed bananas. Beat in eggs, one at a time, stir in buttermilk. In a separate bowl, combine baking powder, flour, nutmeg and nuts. Combine liquid ingredients into dry ingredients. Pour into greased loaf pan. Bake at 350ºF for one hour or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
