In the Garden
Spring is around the corner. I can feel it. Although I am secretly hoping for another few snow days to help build up our water reserves. Agriculture is responsible for about 70% of fresh water usage. Modern varieties are often selected and grown for their size which means they’re also receptacles for more water (but not necessarily more nutrients!) which we then truck from great distances and proceed to waste approximately 50%. Crazy.
Growers on this site are doing lots of great things to reduce water usage where possible including drip irrigation, building soil organic matter, using mulches, choosing more drought resistant varieties, etc. Do a little research for your garden this winter so you’re ready to implement water reduction strategies this spring!

Seedy Days
There’s a couple of seed events I know of happening right away. Seedy Sunday is happening tomorrow, March 3 at Baggage Centre Arts Building and next week a Seedy Saturday will be held in Gillies. Find ’em, check em out!
